ClickMagick Postback URL Setup: The Complete Guide to S2S Tracking

What Is a Postback URL and Why Does It Matter?

A postback URL (also called a server-to-server pixel or S2S pixel) is a tracking method where conversion data is sent directly from the merchant's server to ClickMagick's server — no browser, no cookie, no JavaScript required. This makes it immune to ad blockers, iOS privacy restrictions, and browser cookie limitations.

For affiliate marketers, postback tracking is essential. It's the only way to get 100% accurate conversion data regardless of what browser or device your customer uses. ClickMagick supports postback URLs natively and makes setup straightforward.

How Postback Tracking Works

Here's the flow: 1. Visitor clicks your ClickMagick tracking link. 2. ClickMagick assigns a unique click ID (called "s1" in ClickMagick). 3. The click ID is passed to the affiliate network via a URL parameter. 4. When a conversion occurs, the affiliate network sends the click ID back to ClickMagick via the postback URL. 5. ClickMagick matches the click ID to the original click and records the conversion.

Step 1: Get Your ClickMagick Postback URL

In ClickMagick, go to your tracking link settings. Click on "Pixels" and then "Add Pixel." Select "Postback URL" as the pixel type. ClickMagick will show you your unique postback URL, which looks like: https://www.clickmagick.com/postback?action=sale&clickid=[CLICKID]&amount=[AMOUNT]. Copy this URL — you'll need it in the next step.

Step 2: Configure Your Affiliate Network

Log into your affiliate network (ClickBank, MaxBounty, Commission Junction, etc.). Find the postback/S2S tracking settings for your offer. Paste your ClickMagick postback URL. Map the network's click ID parameter to ClickMagick's [CLICKID] placeholder. Map the commission amount to ClickMagick's [AMOUNT] placeholder. Save the settings.

Step 3: Pass the Click ID Through Your Tracking Link

In your ClickMagick tracking link, add the affiliate network's click ID parameter to the destination URL. For example, if your affiliate network uses "aff_sub" as the click ID parameter, your destination URL should include: ?aff_sub={s1}. ClickMagick will automatically replace {s1} with the unique click ID for each visitor.

Step 4: Test Your Postback Setup

Click your tracking link. Complete a test conversion on the offer (most networks have a test mode). Check your ClickMagick dashboard — you should see the conversion recorded with the commission amount. If it shows up, your postback is working perfectly.

Common Postback Issues and Fixes

Conversions not recording: Check that the click ID parameter name matches between your tracking link and the postback URL. Wrong commission amounts: Verify the amount parameter mapping in your affiliate network settings. Delayed conversions: Some networks send postbacks with a delay — wait 24 hours before troubleshooting.
